In the heart of West Bengal, where the spirit of Bengal's rich culture and culinary traditions thrives, there exists a place that not only serves food but also weaves a tapestry of cultural heritage. This place is none other than 'Bhooter Raja Dilo Bor', a restaurant that stands out as a beacon of traditional Bengali cuisine infused with a touch of nostalgia and innovation. Named after the iconic characters of Satyajit Ray's beloved film, Gupi Gayen – Bagha Bayen, it offers more than just a meal—it provides an experience drenched in Bangaliyana.
The journey to the creation of 'Bhooter Raja Dilo Bor' began under the auspices of Mr. Haridas Paul, the visionary behind Hindusthan Sweets. Bengali sweets, a pivotal element of our regional culinary identity, laid the foundation. The principles of unique recipes and impeccable hygiene carried forward by his grandson, Mr. Rajiv Kumar Paul, paved the way for new ventures. In 1999, Rajiv introduced Bawarchi restaurant in Jadavpur, which quickly became a beloved staple due to its authentic flavors and quality service. Spurred by this success, 'Bhooter Raja Dilo Bor' was launched in 2004, on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya, aiming to revive and serve the lost tastes of Bengal's glorious past.
